David Picken was born in England and is a lifelong supporter of Port Vale in the English League Two (fourth tier) which tragically went into administration in 2012. He played competitively from age 11 to 45 in England, Hong Kong and Australia, and has been a volunteer women's and junior football coach and now administrator with Surf Coast FC in Victoria, Australia. He has previously published a textbook in his professional sphere and is a former winner of the FE Crowle Award from the Australian Institute of Building for teaching excellence at Deakin University.
