Der eiserne Aufstieg: Unions langer Weg in die Bundesliga

After ten years in the 2nd division, 1. FC Union Berlin succeeded in relegating the long-awaited promotion to the upper house in May 2019. This was followed by festivities lasting several days in Köpenick and around the cult stadium Alte Försterei. The illustrated book on the success of the Eisernen reviews the time in the 2nd league and especially accompanies the promotion season. Short texts highlight important players of the last ten years and special events, but the focus is on photos. The picture show offers the numerous followers of Köpenicker a reminder of the long and ultimately successful path from the "dinosaur of the second division" to the top floor of German football.

The author:

The freelance sports journalist and photographer Matthias Koch has accompanied the Eisern every step of the way for more than ten years. The home and away games since his promotion to the second division in 2009, which he has not accompanied with the camera and pen, can be counted on one hand.
