The Immortals of English Football celebrates the nation's greatest ever players, profiling the best of the best over the last century. Football writer Chris Bevan selects a full team of 11 players in position, then delves into the careers of the true greats. Legendary figures selected and profiled include Bobby Charlton, Bobby Moore and Gordon Banks, along with modern era stars David Beckham, Paul Gascoigne and Harry Kane. The book tells the remarkable stories behind each Immortal's rise to the top and the adversity faced through their careers. The perfect gift for any fan of the round ball game.
The author:
Chris Bevan is a football journalist who specialises in ghost-writing opinion and analysis columns for the BBC Sport website working with television and radio pundits like Gary Lineker, Alan Shearer, Rio Ferdinand, Chris Sutton, Karen Bardsley, Ellen White and Micah Richards, and especially enjoys the chance to play 6-a-side with them whenever possible.
Ian Wright once described his left foot as ‘cultured’ but Chris’s greatest sporting achievement on the pitch is probably being the last player to break his (right) leg at Highbury, in 2006.
He started his career covering Leyton Orient for the Waltham Forest Guardian and then became a freelance reporter for Sky Sports, the Daily Mirror and Daily Express before joining BBC Sport in 2000.
