From the publisher:

The Evolution of an Empire: Volume One reveals how Liverpool rose from Second Division stagnation to build English football’s answer to the Roman Empire. Just how did Bill Shankly remould the club’s DNA and assemble his first two great teams?
From renowned football writer Steven Scragg – author of the British Sports Book Awards-shortlisted A Tournament Frozen in Time.
The first part of a fascinating new Liverpool FC trilogy, this deep dive into swinging-60s Anfield brings you:
Exclusive interviews with players, families, journalists and supporters who lived and loved Liverpool’s transformative 1960s era
- A detailed look at Liverpool’s tactical evolution, from traditional British football to the more refined continental style that powered their resurgence
- Insight into Bill Shankly’s flexible, ever-adapting collective, built first to escape the Second Division and then to chase major honours as the 1960s unfolded
- In-depth analysis of the players who helped forge one of the most feared and respected teams of a highly competitive decade
- A critical examination of Shankly’s later missteps, including the delayed team rebuild that led to a seven-year silverware drought and a period of near misses
From biff-and-bash football to pass and move, amid an ocean of tactical change sweeping the sport in the 1960s, this gripping book charts the rise and relentless roll of the Liverpool way. Essential reading for Liverpool supporters and fans of football nostalgia.
