Fußballstadt Berlin

Fourteen football clubs from the greater Berlin area are profiled. A colorful mix of entertaining anecdotes and fascinating facts from those who know best: the fans. Alongside excursions into the imperial era, the division of the city, and the recent past, we primarily explore what makes each club so special and why you might fall in love with them. We present observations from a variety of perspectives – sometimes matter-of-fact and objective, sometimes cheeky and irreverent. But always with plenty of passion and love. The following clubs are examined in detail: BFC Germania 1888, Tennis Borussia, BFC Dynamo, SV Tasmania, Lichtenberg 47, TuS Makkabi, 1. FC Union, Füchse Reinickendorf, Hertha BSC, Türkiyemspor, Berliner AK 07, FC Viktoria 1889, and Blau-Weiß 90. As a bonus, we also take a look at Babelsberg 03, located beyond the city and state borders. Each club is given its own dedicated chapter. Through numerous anecdotes, the authors describe their very personal connection to each club and its position not only in sporting terms, but also within the social context. The historical significance of the changing political systems since the end of the 19th century and their consequences are also addressed. Memories of past triumphs, bitter disappointments, bankruptcies and resurrections, as well as the constant struggle for survival in the era of "modern football" (then and now), thus form—if you will—a common thread among the clubs featured.

With selected contributions from Benjamin Schaller, Daniel Stolzenbach, Mika Reckordt, Janusz Berthold, Thomas Vogelpohl, Max Wlodarczak, Michaela Roßberg, Stefanie Fiebrig, Dominik Schmidt, Benjamin Moser, Holger Schellschmidt, Andreas Thome, Marco Bertram, René Kulke.
