From the publisher:
Six Added Minutes tells the story of teenage dreams on and off the football pitch, as Johnnie Lowery writes about growing up through watching his beloved local team, Sutton United. Lowery's teenage years may start with awkwardness, and a side that are average on the pitch, but as he gets older and wiser, the team he stays loyal to the whole time, start to look as though they might pull off the unimaginable. Tales of school life, girls, and the reality of planning for the future, give an amusing but often heartfelt reflection on life leading up to adulthood. With everything to play for in the FA Cup, just how far can the unfancied Sutton United go? And what will it do for a boy whose life revolves around the beautiful game?
The author:
Johnnie Lowery is a lifelong obsessive football fan. He has been supporting his local side, Sutton United, for as long as he has been old enough to leave the house on his own to go and watch them. His first book, Six Added Minutes, was published in November 2019 whilst Lowery was still at university. It tells a humorous and sometimes poignant tale of him growing up watching Sutton try to make a name for themselves in the FA Cup. His second book, entitled Match Fit looks at the topic of mental health in football. The aim of the book is to softly raise awareness of mental health by sharing the personal stories of many figures in the game. Match Fit is inspired by Lowery's own experiences as a teenager, when he suffered from depression and anxiety but failed to recognise the signs.
