After England (sold out), Italy, Germany, Argentina, Belgium and former Yugoslavia already the seventh edition of Stout stand all about one football country. This time we chose Scotland – and that in a year in which we organized football days that were dedicated to Argentinian, German and Italian football!
The observant reader/foliant of Staantribune will perhaps find it an obvious choice, as our editor-in-chief Joris van de Wier lives in Scotland. Yet we have waited more than nine years with this country special, which will be published on Friday 1 December (at time before Sinterklaas!).
Joris himself signed for stories about the intense derby between Hearts and fellow city dweller Hibs and the terrible stadium disaster in Ibrox of Rangers in 1971. He also went with Jeroen Wibi Heijink to Gayfield Park of Arbroath FC, where the duo also recorded an episode of the Staantribune Podcast. In addition, Joris was with the squatter between Newburgh Juniors and Albion Rovers and he leads the reader around football town of Dundee.
Frank Heinen wrote – as only he can – a portrait of the world-famous Celtic of 1967, especially star Jimmy Johnstone. Editor Guus Hetterscheid spoke with Theo Snelders, who browsed his scrapbooks told about his Scottish years. And Jan Willem went to Aberdeen, where he saw how The Gothenburg Greats can still enjoy hero status forty years after the European Cup II win on the big Real Madrid.
In addition, we spoke with a Dutch supporter of Kilmarnock, we highlight a very special Scottish football shirt, we have beautiful records of the Dumbarton stadium and the infamous England V Scotland on Wembley (1977) and we dissect the world-famous goal of Archie Gemmill against the Netherlands at the 1978 World Championships (also seen in a spicy scene in Trainspotting).
Of course the columns of Groundhopper des Vaderlands Hans Douw, FC Dordrecht -supporter Elisa Kuster (over Mark de Vries) and (again) Frank Heinen should not be missing in this special.
