Foreword by former Pompey chairman Iain McInnes
The author:
‘My old man said be a Pompey fan and don’t dilly-dally on the way’! Pompey born and bred, Sean ‘Northstandcritic’ Simpson enjoyed an idyllic Fratton upbringing care of his loving parents Bill and Marie. Taken by his dad to Fratton Park as an eight year old, his Pompey love affair has endured for half a century. In his playing days, he managed to fool a succession of Sunday-league managers into selecting him ‘between their sticks’. This cunning ruse was carried off thanks to a foolproof cocktail of extra-long studs, a Harold Schumacher perm and some snazzy kit purchased from the Sukan Sports emporium in Reading. Twenty years a civil servant and 20 more a postie, Sean has enjoyed being part of two happy and successful teams, as well as Pompey. Play Up!
