The Revolution of 1958 broke the shackles of the Cold War military alliance of the Baghdad Pact with the Western powers and under the new Republic led by Iraq’s leader Abdul-Karim Qasim, two Iraqi football teams, one formed of military footballers and the other civilian toured Eastern Europe and Far East Asia.
