From the publisher:

The life of legendary Celtic manager WILLIE MALEY – in pictures.

Willie Maley played along with his brother Tom in the first-ever Celtic team in May 1888. He won 13 trophies in the green-and-white stripes of Celtic and made two international appearances for Scotland – even though he was Irish-born!

He was appointed the club’s first manager in 1897 and led Celtic for over four decades until his forced retirement in 1940. He created three of the greatest teams in the club’s history, won over 60 trophies and established a style of attacking football known as ‘the Celtic way’ to huge acclaim.

The Newry bhoy told the audience in 1938 at the club’s Golden Jubilee Dinner: My love for Celtic has been a craze – without it , my existence would be empty indeed.

He took kick-off at his own testimonial match against Bohemians of Dublin at Celtic Park in 1953 at the age of 85. This was sixty five years on from Celtic’s debut appearance when Rangers were beaten 5-2 in 1888. He lived until the age of 89 and was known throughout Scottish football as ‘The Grand Old Man.’

Here his life is recounted in seven chapters, 100 pages and hundreds of photographs, drawings and quotes telling the incredible story of the man known to generations of Celts as simply The Boss.
