Looking at Japan, the number of players playing overseas has increased dramatically, the internationalization of players playing in the J-League has progressed, and overseas strategies by leagues and clubs have become more active than ever. The environments for those watching have also changed significantly, providing more opportunities for people to access and engage with overseas football.

On the other hand, because it is a sport that is played globally, one of the characteristics of football is that it serves to more deeply reflect locality. A great appeal of football is the way in which various personalities can be observed according to region or environment, not only in terms of play style, but also regarding the clubs and their supporters. Aiming to intersect the culture of sport with various fields of knowledge such as anthropology, art, contemporary dance, architecture and economics, it follows less discussed aspects such as horizontal organisation, representation of minorities, gender power relations, subcultures and the relationship between the individual, group and society - amongst other topics. For example, we went to Borussia Dortmund in front of Staantribune #27. As a football fan, you must have visited the Westfalenstadion, they say. But is the atmosphere really that good? Isn't Borussia Dortmund hyped too much? Is the Gelbe Wand a romanticized cliché? Staantribune went to have a look in the Ruhr area and came back with buzzing ears from an overwhelming afternoon of BVB religion. Youri Mulder tells about his nine seasons with arch-rival Schalke 04. He has a treasure trove of anecdotes about Die Königsblauen and especially about the colorful figures from recent history. We also spoke with Harry Decheiver. In the Netherlands he played with average clubs such as RKC and Go Ahead. But suddenly Decheiver became the high-scoring 'Knipser' of SC Freiburg and later winner of the World Cup with Dortmund. How an ordinary Deventer club striker transformed into a top player in the Bundesliga. We also paid a visit to Alemannia Aachen, a small but popular football club that once celebrated successes, but has since fallen hard. "Tivoli broke Alemannia's neck," said those involved. We also spoke with Stefan Lehmann, who was the capo of the ultras of Dynamo Dresden for seventeen years (“In the beginning, nobody took me seriously”), we completed the Deutsche Fußballroute North Rhine-Westphalia, went to visit Essen, we spoke with Erik Meijer and we explain how the friendship between FC Twente and Schalke 04 exactly originated. Journalist Hielke Biemond, who visits almost all home and away games, wrote a personal story about his love for the club. We also interviewed Jan and Michel Vlap, who both played in the first team of the Frisians, former European top scorer Rodion Cămătaru about his time in the Abe Lenstra Stadium and Jeffrey Talan, the first goalscorer in a European context. Paul Bosvelt also talks about one of the best hits in his rich career, during a Derby of the North . We also have background stories about the European Cup Winners' Cup, the Chilean derby between Universidad de Chile and Colo-Colo and the World Cup under 20 in the Netherlands, exactly fifteen years ago. Master photographer Marco Magielse put together a beautiful photo collage of Tribune 2 of the Bosuil Stadium and Joris van de Wier of Fraserburgh FC - Wick Academy. In the middle of the corona crisis, we also called Salvatore Totò Schillaci, top scorer of the 1990 World Cup, thirty years ago. In addition to his usual column, Frank Heinen wrote a portrait of the Czech Tomaš Skuhravý, also one of the stars of the 1990 World Cup and of his club Genoa CFC. Also regular features such as Football & Music , this time about Raymond van het Groenewoud & Ludo Coeck, and De Voetbalstad - about Utrecht, where a lot of football talent comes from - are not lacking.

Note from Stanchion:

This publication is entirely in Dutch, with no English translation available. For example, a panel of recognized groundhoppers compiled the Groundhop Top 25. Among them Hans Douw, perhaps the largest ground hopper in the Netherlands. Douw will also be featured extensively later in this magazine, just like other special football travelers. Such as the very first Dutch Engelandvaarders and Sydney van Hooijdonk, the footballing ground hopper of NAC. For this special edition we also visited De Adelaarshorst, the most beautifully situated stadium in the Netherlands.
